Is it possible to have collection accounts erased from your credit report?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009
DLZ asked:

I want to pay off several credit card collections accounts. I want to handle them myself and not utilize a debt consolidation program because I’ve heard that a “settle” on your credit report still looks bad. How would I go about paying the accounts off AND having them removed? Also, do I have to pay the accounts in full to have the collections removed or can I just pay a high percentage of what is due. ( like 80% )
If the collection agency is willing to remove the collection from your account, will it look like I don’t have credit at all? I have one credit card that I am keeping open, but the others are closed already.
Any ideas anyone? I plan on being debt free by January. :) I don’t want the accounts removed. I want them to erased the negative account info.
I don’t want the accounts REMOVED. I want to STATUS TO BE CHANGED.
My friend had it done, but i want to know if it is common for a collection agency to do so.

How long after a bankruptcy is discharged (finalized) does your credit report reflect that?

In other words, my bankruptcy was discharged at the end of March, when will the credit report relect which accounts were thrown out in the bankruptcy?

Thanks!
DAS: I know that the items stay on the credit report, but they will have a note indicating that the were included in the bankruptcy so that any future creditors can see that the debt is not outstanding.

How long does a small collections amount stay on your credit report?

Monday, July 20th, 2009
Sean R asked:

I checked my wife’s credit report and she has a small collections amount of $23. She was unaware of it and thinks it may have been from her divorce. She thinks her ex-husband never took care of it or failed to provide the bill to her. I’m paying it off so that it’s taken care of but wonder how long it will be on her credit report. With it being paid off now, is it going to hurt her credit for the next 7 years?
