Is there a way to remove bad history from your credit report?

Saturday, July 18th, 2009
JC asked:

I made some errors with my credit when I was younger. I have been doing great at keeping a good credit history now that I’m more mature and understand the importance of credit (last 3 years). However, my old mistakes are still hunting me. I read somewhere that it can take 7 to 10 years for a bad entry in your credit report to be dropped. Is there a way I can remove those sooner?

I had the only credit collection removed from my credit report.what is the effect on my FICO score?

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009
shOegaL asked:

I have only had one collection and it was removed from my credit report. I have 13 other accounts in good standing. My credit history is about 2 years because I am young. I don’t have any high balances except for my car…9,500 out of the 13,500 originally. What will be the impact on my credit score with the removal of this collection alone? Thanks!
Hi everyone! I know that my credit score will go up because of this but I need to know how much, the actual amount or an educated guess! Thank you!

Fix Your Credit Report

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009
Kathleen Chester asked:

Fixing a credit report can be a slow and tedious process. It includes hours of assessment and thinking. However there are some companies that claim to quickly fix your credit report and make you financially credible. These services are usually offered by the independent credit reporting agencies and are used by mortgage lenders or brokers who try to get better loan terms for their borrowers.

Bad credit scores can hamper your credibility and chances of getting a credit. In such a case, you need to fix your credit report. A credit report can be fixed by removing errors. This process can help to boost a borrower’s credit score in the midst of the lending process and get a loan or a better interest rate for them than might have been possible otherwise.

Unlike the past when most of the lending decisions were man-made, most of the decisions today are automated, using computers and credit scores. This system has dramatically declined the opportunities to get special treatment and errors are a more serious problem these days.

If by the mistake of the machine, someone else’s bankruptcy is reported in your credit file, you can lose hundreds of points off your credit score and your credit application likely would be rejected. Even the slightest errors can beat enough points off your score for the lender to turn you down your application or charge a higher interest rate.

You can however wait for the mistake to be fixed through the normal channels which involves writing the credit bureau and waiting up to 30 days for an investigation. This process is however very long and takes too much of time. The home sales and refinancing can fall through in the time it takes to fix problems.

You can fix your own credit report and make the repairs. Here are some of the important steps that you can follow while fixing your own credit report.

· Make regular reviews of your credit report to keep an eye on any errors flowing in. You can get a copy of your credit history from each of the three major bureaus and review for errors, outdated information and accounts that aren’t yours. In case of any problems, you can consult the bureaus about how to dispute these items.

· You can contact your creditors if the bureaus say the creditors have confirmed the information you think is incorrect. In that case you may need to directly argue your case with the creditors. If the creditor accepts his mistake and agrees to remove the item from your credit report then make sure you get a acknowledgement letter for the same from the creditor.

· Keep a good record pf all thee paperwork that is generated by these disputes and investigations. You may need to present this to the credit bureau, or your loan officer, when required.

How Do I Review My Credit Report?

Monday, February 2nd, 2009
Ronnica Rothe asked:

If you don’t know what is on your credit report or what your credit score is, you may want to review your credit report.  This is especially important if you want to make a large purchase or apply for a new credit card in the near future, but reviewing your credit report on a semi-regular basis will keep you aware of your credit history and let you know if you have become a victim of identity theft.  Credit score information can also help you understand what your credit score and report means.

If you have obtained a free copy of your credit report, you may find it difficult or confusing.  They most certainly aren’t the most user-friendly documents.  If you have any questions about what your report is actually saying about your credit history, you will want to talk to an accredited financial counselor.  The counselor will be able to review the credit report with you and show you simple steps that you may be able to take to improve your credit history in the next 6 months to a year.  While credit repair companies can claim to increase your score dramatically and fast, the truth is that real credit repair takes time, and unless there is something fraudulent on your report, there is little you can do to change what is already there.

A credit counselor may also be able to show you your credit score or at least the likely credit score based on your information.  If there is any fraudulent information, they can help you understand how you can dispute the claims and fix your credit.

Reviewing your credit report regularly is one of the best ways to know that you are financially stable and ready to make the next steps toward your financial goals.

Annual Credit Report: Helps to Keep a Track on Your Financial Dealings

Monday, February 2nd, 2009
Sophie Wilson asked:

Until and unless the need arise, most of the people do not particularly prefer to keep a track on their financial dealings. Having knowledge about the credit scenario is very much important as it enables the person to know about his/her financial standing. Besides, it is on the basis of these details that creditors approve any sort of financial assistance. So, it becomes extremely important to have a detailed report and in this regard, annual credit report can be of great assistance.

Credit report contains the information pertaining to credit history, payments made along with credit worthiness and personal information of a particular person for one complete financial year. In accordance with the federal laws, these credit agencies devise and manage the reports for credit up keeping. You can access the credit report from any of the 3 credit agencies, which are Transunion, Equifax and Experian.

The annual credit report from these agencies will offer almost the same information, but the way of presenting the information varies. This implies that there are chances of missing some details about your credit standing. Instead, you must take the precaution and collect credit report from each of these agencies. It may be that some lenders or individuals may provide some misleading information, which may very well affect your opportunities in the financial market. This is why, it is very much important to consult a credit report, so as to check out if there are any errors or wrong information documented on your credit report and get it corrected.

With the inception of online mode, getting an annual credit report has become a lot simpler and easier. In fact, one can use the services to access the report at any point of time and that from any place. However, before availing the services, it must be verified whether the service provider is a reputed one or not. Moreover, you should read the terms and conditions carefully, so as to avoid any future hassles. By doing so, you can very well access the report without any hurdles.

Free Credit Report And Score - How To Receive A Free Credit Report

Friday, October 10th, 2008
credit report
Carrie Reeder asked:

Each consumer with credit history should obtain a copy of their report annually. The cost of credit reports vary. If obtaining a copy from the credit bureaus, consumers may pay $15 per bureau. However, some online credit agencies advertise low cost credit reports. Rather than paying for a credit report, consider obtaining a free report.

Who Qualifies for a Free Credit Report?

By law, each consumer is entitled to one free credit report each year. Although reports are free, consumer may have to pay a few bucks to view their credit score. Despite this incentive to encourage credit report monitoring, many people neglect to review the contents of their report. This results in millions becoming victims of identity theft each year. Free credit reports are available online, and viewable for up to 30 days. However, other factors may also qualify you for a free credit report.

Credit Report Inaccuracies

If you believe that your credit report contains errors or mistakes, you are a good candidate for a free credit report from each of the three bureaus. The majority of people only review their report from one bureau. However, if the contents on the Experian report are inaccurate, it’s worth obtaining copies of the other three reports to ensure that the same mistake has not occurred twice.

Denied Credit, Employment, or Insurance

Although credit history has nothing to do with your ability to function well on the job or drive a car, many employers, and insurance agencies have begun checking credit reports. In some instance, a negative credit rating may prevent you from obtaining employment, or result in higher car insurance premiums. Individuals who have been denied a line of credit, employment, or insurance because of their credit will qualify for a free report.

Experience a Credit Limit Reduction or Interest Rate Increase

Unfortunately, creditors have the right to reduce credit limits and increase rates at their leisure. If you habitually make late payments or exceed your credit limit, a change in credit card limits and rates should be expected. However, if changes occur for no apparent reason, it helps to obtain a free copy of your report and ensure that all information is accurate.
