Time for another class on "Credit Reporting 101"

The "last activity date" is the last time anything has been reported on this item. It only reflects that something is happening regarding this debt, and has nothing to do with the credit reporting period.

What you are looking for is the "delinquency date". This is the date you first missed your payment. Credit reporting can only occur for7 years from this date. It MUST be reported to the credit bureau within 90 day of their posting.

I am suspecting that the collection agent does not have full information about your debt. So file a dispute with the credit bureau saying the delinquency date is being misreported. They will verify this info.

Also send the creditor a demand to validate the debt.

try pulling your report from the credit reporting agencies, you can get all three, it will have all the dates, amounts, address and phone numbers of your creditors/collection agency's and the date the charge-off falls off your credit report.

If you are looking at tri-merge reports then you should order your real reports from each CRA.

For most CRA's the DOLA "is not" the DOFD (date of first delinquency - which is the compliance/obsolescence date)
EQ is the only CRA that "usually" uses the DOLA as the compliance date. TU and EX usually report the date the account is supposed to be removed under the Status section.

If you want to know when it is supposed to be removed you can call or write to the CRA's to ask them for the compliance date on that account. Be sure to mention that you "are not" disputing anything at this time that you are only requesting information.

If you call, when they tell you the compliance date ask them to send you the date in writing.

With most CRA's the DOLA can be "anything", even the date the account was sold to a collector - the DOLA is misleading and should never be used as an indicator of when the account should be removed.
The DOFD is what should be used and "that date cannot change" once the account is charged off

If you are looking at a report obtained through a "merged" report reseller like Truecredit or Freecreditreport.com, you would do best to go directly to Experian, Transunion, or Equifax and order your paper report directly from them. Often times information like "date of last activity" or estmates of when the item will "fall off" your report (if the reporting agency does this) don't show on 3rd-party merged reports or someteimes even in the online version of the reports offered by the "big 3".

If you already have the paper reports and they still show
"N/A " or "Not available" for DOLA, you can try to dispute
the item as inaccurate or obsolete with the reporting agency
if you truly believe it's been 7 years or longer since you have
had any activity with the original creditor on the account.
