How to repair an error on my credit report?
knesa27 asked:
I have a collection on my credit report from the old AT&T, when they had wireless products (cell phone.) I paid my account in full, but when I went to check my credit report it says that I owe them $5.00 and they put me in collections. Now when I called the collection department to dispute it, the collection department no longer exists because AT&T wireless no longer exists!! Any suggestion on what I should do? I’ve already tried to correct the error with the credit reporting agencies, but they need proof that my account was paid in full. HELP!

The fact that the credit dept no longer exist is in your favor. You can dispute with the credit reporting agency, who has to check with the credit dept at AT&T for validity. (since the credit dept is gone, so is your problem)

Go to equifax.com and request your free annual report. Once you view your report, you can dispute an item.

If you are seriously concerned about a 5 dollar ding on your credit report you are too fascinated with credit.

go online and get your free credit report. The gov allows everyone a free credit report a year. Do not for one of those sights that ask you for a credit card and a free month trial of credit monitering. In that case the credit report is not free. I checked mine a few months ago. I can not remember the sight. But go to a search engine and type in something like free gov yearly credit report. It really is free and no credit card needed.
Then you can dispute the problem and they credit place will get back to you. And if they still do not fix it stay on it, keep insisting. sooner of later they will get sick of you bugging them and take it off. Or else call the attorney generals office, or your local congressman. I am serrious these people have helped me before. That is why there were elected.

Dispute it again with the credit bureaus but with a different dispute, incorrect information for example. The credit bureau will then send the CDV to AT&T, if they don’t get a response within 30 days they will automaticly remove the information from your credit report
