How do I verify when negative items drop my credit report?

credit report
Stephanie N asked:

I understand that negative items remain on your Credit Report for 7 years after the date of Original Delinquency, but how do I determine when this date incurs? Since the “Date of Last Activity” changes extending the date of deletion on your credit report, how can I determine when items should drop off?

  1. Landlord Says:

It is seven years after you pay off the debt, the month/year you paid if off appears on your credit report.

When you look at your credit report, it will clearly mention a date of first delinquency or date reported or something like that. 7 years start from the date of first delinquency reported by original creditor. Usually 90 days late and after is considered as such.

It is NOT 7 years AFTER you have paid the debt off. See the sample credit report.

Transunion’s reports actually tell you when the bad debt will be removed, but it is up to follow up to make sure.
