How can I go about getting a free credit report?
gosox43 asked:
it seems there are always strings attached or you have to mail all this info, bills, licenses etc.. is there a place where i can just get 1 free credit report on-line for free?

Once a year you can get one from the three big credit companies. Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian.
I do it every year. Completely free, no strings attached.

AnnualCreditReport.com is the site set up to view your credit reports from each of the three credit bureaus online. It is the only site that doesn’t require you to sign up for monitoring and is approved by the FTC.
Sometimes you can’t get your report online and have to send in copies of ID to prove you are who you say you are. This is a matter of the credit bureaus being cautious.

You can go to:
It was set up by the government. I am fairly sure it’s “string free.” If it’s not this one, the government has MANDATED that the big 3 reporting agencies give you 1 free report annually.
Hope this helps!

I wouldn’t do it online, b/c like you said almost all of the things have strings. Its scary, I’m a mortgage broker, and a company i worked for recently was purchasing leads from EXPERIAN that’s right we were getting peoples information directly from the credit bureaus?? ISN’T THAT SOME STUFF!! And it was legal!! I don’t work for them any more thanks Bob. So I would suggest finding a friend that is a mortgage broker and having them do it for you, as most of us can pull credit on someone whenever we want to. BUT ID BE VERY VERY CAREFUL ABOUT DOING IT ONLINE no matter where the source is !!

The credit report is actually free.
You have to give the credit report companies your:
credit cards, bank accounts information;
so that they can give you a rating based upon your spending habits, whether you pay your credit card balances on time, and if you have ever gotten finance charges or late payments.
