Is there a really free site to check one’s credit report?
yanksgirl asked:
Every search I do, comes up with a site that says ‘free credit report’ but adds with 30 day ‘whatever’ service to keep monitoring your credit, etc. I know there are free ones out there but how do I find one? thanks

You can legally receive a free copy of your credit report from each of the credit companies once a year. Additional requests are generally $10.

Yes, you can pull your credit report, from each credit monitoring service, 1x per year for free. However, I believe each of those requires a fee to see your actual credit score.
Transunion
Experion

, but it is a business and they do all sort of stuff to make it confusing to get to the free site, then the free site takes you through a million changes to get your report

Yes the website others have posted allows you to receive one free report a year from the three companies. However, not all states have the same rules. Therefore, some states allow you to get one free each year anyway and you don’t have to use that website. In California where I am….you need to use the website. Used to be you could request a free one once a year from each company directly. I also recommend taking advantage of checking your report each year. I’ve seen stuff I paid off years ago suddenly show up on my report as new collections. I also work in a criminal law office and OMG….identity/credit theft is sooo much greater than you just hear on the news!!
