I am a web designer how do I report my earnings so it shows me as employed on my credit report?

CreditKing asked:

I checked my free annual credit report and it is showing me like I have never been employed. Even though I have been designing websites and I make good money with my services. How do I report the jobs I am getting so that it shows me as employed? And what information do I need to provide?

Not all jobs appear on credit reports. The employment section of the credit report does not affect your ability to borrow money. Lending decisions are based on other parts of the credit report and the employment information that you provide on the loan (or credit card) application form.

Your credit bureau report would not show information with regards to employment and assets.
It is a tool for the institutions to look at your liabilities such as credit cards, loans, and line of credits. As a result for example someone who has a large income (lets’ say $500K a year) without ever having any credit cards, loans, etc.., would not have a credit score..
There is a part on the report that could indicate your employment and income, however, it’s not necessary and not usefull. You can contact the bereau and ask them to add that information to your report.
If you’re from Canada, you can go to for contact info.

Usually when you apply for credit and put down self employed on the application or if you update your employment status with your current creditors, they will update the info to the CRA’s.

You can also send a letter to the CRA’s yourself and request that they update your employment status in the personal section on your reports.

If you apply for credit, you will provide your employment history on the loan forms. The bank will ask for copies of your income tax returns. Since you have reported that income (as you were legally required to), that’s enough.
