How do you get a Credit Report if you have never had a credit card before?
sf4fun asked:
I have never had a credit card. I only hold a savings account with my bank. Is it possible to get a credit report? or something like that. Someone told me it was.
I just ment, I need a credit report to get an apartment. I have no credit card and no credit established since of that. Is it possible to get a credit report with just a savings account!?

Not only with credit cards you can have a credit report. Some other companies as department stores and cellphone providers can list you on a credit report.

Un paid phone bills, power bills, fines, loan payments, and any number of other thing that you dont pay. When the phone company or what ever can’t get the mony you owe them they inform a government department that gives you a credit rating. If you dont pay your bills on time you will have a bad record and will have a hard time getting bank loans and credit cards.

You need credit to establish a credit history….:)
Start with getting a card from some of the retail stores like Target.
If possible, get an unsecured card like Visa. Get a very low credit limit (under $1000). Use it regularly to pay off bills you normally pay in cash, but be sure to pay off credit card each month.
Buy some small items on credit, like a TV.

annualcreditreport.com would give you a free annual copy (as required by the US government), but if you are looking for scores it would be a waste of money to find out your scores if you have no credit history.

Look in your “yellow pages” or on line. Most credit reporting companies have 800 # to get an annual free report! Get the #, call them and give your SSAN #, address etc. You’ll receive a credit report on you in a few days or so!
