FreeCreditReport.com is free in as much as the free 30-day trial. In order to get the “free” report, they require a credit card to sign up for their services because if you don’t cancel after the 30-days, you get charged a monthly service fee.
And I’ve heard that it can be quite difficult to cancel.

If you just want copies of your credit report, AnnualCreditReport.com is the way to go. ACR doesn’t require a credit card or registration for other services. ACR is the only government approved site to receive your free reports ( 1 per bureau, once every 12 months).
Your credit score will cost extra, no matter what site you go to.
