Can the original creditor & the collection agency both show up on my credit report?

I have a few old accounts on my credit report that were charged off. the original creditor & the collection agency that they sold the note to are both on my credit report looking like double the bad payment history. Can they do that?

   Yep, you defaulted with the original and they reported the charge off. Then the collection agency reported since you now have a dept with them. Try to pay at least the collection agency so that is resolved……

   Yes they actually can. You can dispute the items with the bureau as being the same account and the bureau will recognize this and make adjustments once validated.
