Fixing Credit Report Errors

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009
Free credit report
Mike Clover asked:

After taking the first step of obtaining a free credit score report, the next most common step to improving your credit score is to correct any errors that might be present. Strangely enough, errors do occur, and it is well worth taking the time to dispel such inconsistencies. You must carefully scrutinize the report in order to correct things like account numbers, names, wrong information, as well as items that are out of date. The last error type is the most common mistake and when corrected can have an important impact on your score.

There are guidelines that regulate how long certain kind of information can be recorded in your credit score. For example, most undesirable information that is over seven years old may be removed. This includes lawsuits, judgments, paid tax liens, accounts dispatched for collection, records of criminal activity (other than convictions), late payments, and even child support and many other pieces of possibly adverse information. This is great news for those that have blemishes on their credit report from years ago. These things will not show up forever. Even insolvencies that are older than ten years can be dismissed from your score. Getting rid of this outdated undesirable information can have an immediate impact on your score, especially depending on the severity of the problem.

It may seem silly, but it is just as important to check things like your Social Security number, name, address, phone number, and information concerning your occupation. These mistakes might be outdated or simply entered incorrectly. These errors actually do occur. In the same way, errors also occur concerning your involvement with certain accounts. It is possible that suits or credit accounts that do not belong to you show up on your credit report. This is also true of accounts that have been paid in full. Sometimes these accounts may not have been updated and still show an outstanding balance.

By filling out a request for reinvestigation form or writing a letter, you can correct these errors that are detrimental to your overall credit score. You should, as carefully as possible, reference every inaccurate or outdated piece of data that appears on your report as well as describe why that information is incorrect. The reporting agency will then investigate those items and contact you within 30 days to notify you of any changes. This process may also be expedited if you are trying to qualify for a mortgage or car loan. This is known as a rapid rescore.

Once you have rid your free credit score report of any incorrect information, you can then begin to add positive information. This might be through a new loan, a secured credit card or simply making responsible payments on the accounts you already have. By double-checking your credit report for errors you might save yourself a great deal of time in the task of recreating your credit merit.

Credit Report - Consumers’ Safety Tool

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009
Free credit report
Barney Garcia asked:

It deals with credit. Or in simple common language credit report deals with money matters. In any type of deal a clear-cut idea regarding monetary transaction is a must from both sides. The borrower must have a transparency about his/her financial status and the lender has every right to know about the borrower’s position. Then can only take place a fair deal. Credit report is one such avenue that allows both the parties to carry on with their process of credit lending.

Information in your credit report in fact is enough to prove your identity. From the basic level of the means to recognize you till the **** and bits of your credit history and public record everything is put together in the credit report. Now won’t you call it a safety tool of every individual who is at the same time a respective consumer?

In a consumer credited society you just can’t turn your back towards the consumer report. Precisely it only secures your financial position but also is as important as your existence or being on this earth. It’s no kidding but the real fact.

Matter related to your identity

What’s in the name but in the credit report the first thing that comes is your name and aliases by default. All your residential details with addresses for communication and permanent are given the second place. You can easily call it your bio-data but in brief. Because except your education and experience all personal details, from the birthday till your marital status will have to be clearly and rightly informed.

Details of your credit

The credit report will contain all relevant information about your accounts. It will also be supported by the name and detail of the banks, the financers, the credit card companies, the insurance companies and agents and so on. Different types of loans you have taken and also returned or in a process of transaction and return will be included in the credit report. Therefore in a single report a compact idea and information of credit position gets drawn. You are aware of your statuesque and the others in the deal, mostly the lenders won’t find it any difficulty to set on a business with you.

Credit report leaning on public record

If the public record is not up to the mark the credit record will have a black spot on it. From the consumer’s position a clean public record is very important in credit dealing. This includes information related to bankruptcy at the state or the national level, all types of court and judicial information and also things concern to tax implementation and payment on the whole. And then if you know all those who have a track on your credit report you can remain free of tension that your credit and financial position are safe.

Fantasy Credit Report

Monday, January 26th, 2009
Free credit report
Tom Justice asked:

r Credit Report (the Boring Part)

Your online credit report is a collection of files and records pertaining to your credit history. It is often referenced for hiring, renting, mortgages, loans, background checks and many other situations which may require an involvement of a larger sum of your income or a need for your personal services. Your online credit report contains the good the bad and yes, the ugly, within its pages. There are 3 major credit report bureaus from which the information comes from: TransUnion, Equifax and Experian. For the most they are similar, but between the three bureaus there may be some different items listed.

What If!?
What if your online credit report was only full of positive, correct and up to date items? This would be like a fantasy credit report. You could use it like a tool for certain things like getting a low interest loan or the mortgage you actually wanted. You could use it as a weapon against those creditors who automatically assume that your credit ***** and turn the whole finance game around on them. This fantasy credit report would be like a report card with all A’s (something most of us have never experienced right?). Imagine not having to worry about what the results are going to be when the phone rings from the bank because you have total peace of mind that your credit report is not only clean but also free of errors and mishaps. The anxiety of waiting for the results of your credit standing concerning a major purchase can cause equal or more mental tension than a doctor walking in the room with his results for a major medical test.

Making the Fantasy a Reality
Okay, so this whole fantasy credit report thing is exactly just that right? A fantasy. Well… not necessarily. See, you are the only one that can ultimately control what happens to your credit report. Yes, of course there are those ‘unknown factors’ - BUT, the good news is there is a big first step you can take to help start achieving your own personal fantasy credit report. You can obtain a free copy of your credit report and see what negative items are sitting on your file. More than 70% of all U.S. citizens with credit reports have false or out of date items on their credit file. By spotting these items early and taking the appropriate steps to remove them you can improve your credit rating. What else can you do? Develop a personalized budget. It will take a couple months of re-adjusting but will help you to see where your money is going and begin to mature your spending habits. Also, think about your major purchases before you make them. Too often in our society, consumers buy things without a second thought and “paint themselves into a corner” financially. When you take on more payments than you can afford you have set up your credit report for long term damage. Here is a saying to think about regarding this type of situation: “If your outgo exceeds your income, eventually your upkeep will become your downfall.” Remember that the fantasy credit report is waiting to evolve before your very eyes - you just have to make it happen.

Credit Report Repair – Watch Out for the So-called Experts of Credit Reporting

Monday, January 26th, 2009
Free credit report
Tomas Loden asked:

Nowadays there seems to be an “expert” credit repair company everywhere you look. There are advertisements on the television, in your newspapers, and of course all over the Internet.

In addition, every time you turn on your radio or look in the mailbox you will continue to find credit repair companies that make bold claims about how well they can get your debts cleared and resume your financial status back into the green zone.

What’s with all the hype?

You know exactly the type of claims I am talking about. These credit repair companies all say the same thing:

“Do you have credit problems? No problem, we can help!”

“Work with us and legally create an entirely new identity”

“We can erase all of your bad credit, no matter how much debt you have, and it is 100% guaranteed!”

“Do you have judgments, bankruptcies, bad loans, and liens? Our services can wipe these items from your credit file and remove them forever!”

Do not fall for these very misleading statements

It is quite understandable to be persuaded by the sales hype of these types of credit report repair offers. Let’s face it, your credit is a mess, debts are high, and like most people, you would do anything to repair and clear your credit. But like the old saying goes: “If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is”

You must learn to recognize the red flags of false advertising and misleading credit repair claims. Most of these companies are just looking for a fast buck by taking advantage of desperate men and women who have piled on debt over the years. Unfortunately, many young people tend to fall for these types of offers because of poor spending decisions and extremely high student loan expenses.

Watch out for the following red flags

When responding to any offer from a credit report repair company, regardless of whether it is in good standing with their clients are not, watch out for the following red flags:

1. Credit repair companies that ask for payments upfront before any of their services are provided to you.

2. Agencies that except your payment but then refer you to directly contacting the credit bureaus yourself.

3. Debt repair services that use illegal tactics in order to try to beat the credit filing system, such as offering to help create a new identity for you.

4. Credit repair companies that do not fully disclose your legal rights and what you can do for yourself to help repair your credit that is free of charge.

All hope is not lost, there are trustworthy credit repair agencies available!

The point of this article is not to scare you off into thinking that all credit repair companies and their offers are scams. In fact, there are indeed some very professional and reputable credit report repair companies that can help you with your debts. But certainly you must heed the advice of not falling for every offer that promises to clear your name and your debts overnight, literally.

The Importance of Repairing your credit report.yourself!

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009
Free credit report
Kimberly Kellish asked:

or=”#000080″><p>It seems to be common knowledge today that we are living in a society overwhelmed with debt. Credit card balances are hitting all time highs and in return, people are running into more and more problems with their credit ratings. These circumstances have led to decreased credit scores which lead to increased fees for credit cards, auto insurance, and can even affect you getting a job!</p>

<p>A recent study has shown that nearly 70% of credit reports carry some type of error on them. 70%! Statistics like this is one factor which has resulted in the government allowing Americans the ability to receive a free credit report every year. Americans need to become more aware of what is reported on their credit reports to help decrease these errors.</p>

<p>One business that has begun to flood the web is “Credit Repair Companies”. There are several different websites, many of them claiming to be law firms, which will charge you numerous fees to clean your credit report for you. Typical tactics used by these credit repair companies are bombarding collection agencies with letters, asking them to remove your negative items. What consumers need to know is that these tactics, which give the credit repair company’s the nickname “Dispute mills”, are not effective in removing negative items! Typically it does nothing more then raise red flags at the collection agency’s and can even make it nearly impossible in the future for you to try to re-dispute an item on your own. Collection Agency’s will see these as what it is, a mass mailing to get negative items removed, and take it as ungrounded reasons to have items removed.</p>

<p>Their tactics and fees are on thing to consider but one previously unmentioned thought may be even more important, identity theft! Identity theft is one of the highest crimes in the country today. When you hire a credit repair company on the internet you may know nothing more about the company then its website address. There first step will be to charge you all kinds of fees, secondly they will want a copy of your credit report so that they can fix your negative items or errors. Now if this is a legitimate law firm or credit repair company, there may be nothing to fear, but what if their not? You just gave someone access to all your personal information including not only your credit card numbers, loan numbers, but your social security number, address and everything that legally makes you…YOU!</p>

<p>For those few reasons you need to understand that you do not need to hire anyone to fix your credit report. You can accomplish the same thins even the best credit repair company can accomplish, by doing it yourself! The people at creditrepairplan.com help you to learn how you can fix your credit effectively, legally and simply. They provide you with a simple step-by-step calendar to follow, sample letters to send to collection companies or creditors, and maybe even more importantly, empower the consumer by informing them of their legal rights when it comes to credit repair.</p>

<p>We shouldn’t become overwhelmed by the process or frustrated by the creditors games. Become informed, learn your rights and regain your credit freedom!</p>

Do You Need Your Credit Scores With Credit Report?

Sunday, January 18th, 2009
Free credit report
Mike Clover asked:

I was real excited after I went to annualcreditreport and got my free credit report. But to my surprise there were no credit scores. I started asking myself since everyone looks at your credit score shouldn’t I know what my scores are? I would assume there is a reason for a credit score to begin with, and some very important purpose behind this magical number that everyone closely looks at these days. In this article I will discuss why you need to know your credit score and by not knowing it how it can affect your personal life.

Reasons for knowing your credit score:

When you apply for a loan, all lenders look at your credit score to determine what type of loan they will put you in. Your score will also determine the rate and terms as well. This magical number also will dictate how much money you need to put down on the purchase too. The lower your score the higher your risk, and the uglier your loan terms are. This is just one example of why you need to know this 3 digit number.

When applying for that higher paying job, guess what most companies are doing now. They pull your credit, and if your score is low I am sure they may consider hiring the applicant with the same credentials but higher score. You might ask yourself why, and the answer would be risk. Your score gives anyone that requests your report the type of risk you are. This employer may think you are an irresponsible person by having low scores. This could cause them to pass you up on the position.

Maybe you are trying to get insurance for a car, house, or a boat. All insurance agents pull your credit, and determine your premium based on your credit score. The software that spits out this number will even affect your insurance cost. This is amazing if you think about it. Even utility companies are pulling your credit report now, and if you have bad credit they will require larger deposits, just incase you skip out on the bill.

Since everyone is looking at your credit score to determine your credit risk, maybe its time to learn all three of your scores. With the current credit crunch that is taking place, matters will only get tough to get loans. There has never been a more important time to learn what is being reported about you. So the answer is yes, you need to know all three of your credit scores. It is recommended that you pull your credit report every 4 months, since anything can change within a 30 day window on your report. Below is a example of what is considered good scores according to my FICO.

* Excellent: Over 750

* Very Good: 720 or more

* Acceptable: 660 to 720

* Uncertain: 620 to 660

* Risky: less than 620

How to Get a Free Online Credit Report in UK and Why You Should Print It

Sunday, January 4th, 2009
Free credit report
Emanuele Allenti asked:

A free UK online credit report can be easy to obtain, as there are many websites dedicated to providing you with your credit score. In the UK, they refer to the term “credit score” and their rating is based usually on a scale of 0-1000; the nearer the 1000 mark, the better your credit score.

There are many companies all over the world that will offer you a free UK online credit report; most of these companies are based in America, but some are also based in the United Kingdom. They realize that there is a market for people who want to view their free UK online credit report. This is because in the UK you can’t apply to view your credit report for free, but you can get a free UK online credit report on your computer, but you will have to subscribe to these websites; otherwise you will not know your credit score. You can apply for the free 30 day trial to most sites, but if you want to keep checking your credit score, then you will have to pay the trial membership fee (which is generally negligible).

Finding out your credit score is very important to people in the UK. There is a lot of debt hanging over UK citizen’s heads and they want to know if their debt is affecting their credit score. A free UK online credit report will let you know all this information and will give you an accurate credit score based on your credit performance over the last year or two. A free UK online credit report will let you know if you do need to make some alterations to your spending. Obviously, being in the red will tell you that you need to figure out a financial plan to get your credit score back on track. If it’s in the green, then keep following the stable financial path you are on, but continue to look for ways to improve.

If you are looking at your credit report on the Internet, then you will more than likely find that you are also able to print it out and retain a copy. Most websites will extend the option to do this. And obtaining a free printable credit report will save you the time of having to go back and read your credit report again. If you have used the free printable credit report option, then that will give you the chance to sit down and thoroughly read your credit report. You can see what might be keeping your credit rating down and then you can think of an action plan for how to combat this and bring your credit rating back to a score of around 500 or 600 at a minimum.

Also if you are using an Internet company’s 30-day free trial, then you can view your credit report, use the free printable credit report option, and then cancel your membership if you feel that you won’t need the membership services again. The free printable credit report option will not always be available to free members, as more credit reporting companies are tightening up their policies to make it harder for customers to obtain a free report without getting forced into some type of paid membership plan.

A free printable credit report is a good option to take if you are applying for credit somewhere; if they reject you because of your recent credit history, you can then show them that your recent credit history is fine. If it isn’t good enough, then you can show them an action plan that you have drawn up; and you can explain how you will be able to make these monthly repayments. This will show them that you are determined to get this credit and you are more than prepared to get your credit back in your favor. Credit lenders like this and will most likely review their decision.

How 3-1 Credit Reports With Credit Scores Will Better Educate You

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008
Free credit report
Mike Clover asked:

A consumer armed with their 3-1 credit report will save more money than one whom does not have any idea what is on it. Creditors love an uneducated consumer when it comes to borrowing money. Did you know a bank can charge a rate between 1% to 4% difference depending on how aware you are of the market and your creditworthiness? They are in the business of making money just like any other company. This type of difference can be the same for any type of loan, insurance, and even credit cards. If you are walking out there with credit report blinders on, I guarantee that you are paying too much on rates and terms.

Arm yourself against high interest rate bandits

If you take the time to pull a copy of your credit report with credit scores you will be properly armed with first hand knowledge of what the creditors and the scoring models say about your personal credit worthiness. If you are getting ready to make a purchase, refinance, or just to get an installment loan, you need to be aware of what is on your free credit score report. If you don’t take to time and money to get a copy of your credit report with scores, it will cost you a lot more down the road. Its like going shopping for tires, everyone has different prices for the same product. If you don’t take the time to do your research you will pay too much. If you are curious what the credit score ranges are, here they are according to Fair Isaac.

The general scoring ranges between 300 ‘ 850. Fair Isaac divides the scores into five categories.

780 - 850 - Low Risk

740 - 780 - Medium - Low Risk

689 - 740 - Medium Risk

620 - 690 - Medium High Risk

620 - and Below - High Risk or “sub-prime.”

Having a copy of your credit report advantages:

- Better Interest rates

- More savings

- Better Terms on loans

- Check for inaccuracies

- Lower insurance

- Fix errors

- Piece of mind

- Check for identity theft

Hopefully this article has explained some of key points to being educated about what is in your credit report. Years ago this access was not even available to the public. Now that it is you should check your credit report often to ensure you are educated about your own creditworthiness.

Don’t waste any more money; get your FREE credit report today!

Credit Reports From Experian and TransUnion, Are They So Good?

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008
Free credit report
Emanuele Allenti asked:

The ability to see your own credit report for free has taken America by storm. Many companies are overwhelmed with the amount of people requesting to view their credit report. A free online Experian credit report might be the way to go. Getting your free online Experian credit report is very simple. You just enter your details and within a few clicks of your mouse, you will be viewing your own free online Experian credit report.

If you want to use the free online Experian credit report, then you have to be aware of the charges that will occur if you do not cancel your online membership. Once you have signed up and used the free online Experian credit report, then you will have 30 days to cancel your membership if you do not want to use the service anymore. Otherwise you will be charged monthly on your credit card. A free online Experian credit report is a great way to check your credit rating from home. Also, if you are with Experian, then you know that you are with a very respected company that will always look after your needs. Experian (formally known as TRW) is a credit-reporting agency, which means that they have a lot to live up to. They always meet their customers’ needs and they have a very professional website; they know what people want when they request their credit report, and they know how to deliver something special.

The service offered by Experian is virtually unmatched by others. It seems that the only benefit that the other companies can offer you is that they can show you all 3-credit reports at once, including Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. But Experian offers quality customer service as well as an easy to navigate website. The choice is yours.

A credit report score from TransUnion is a great way to get an up-to-date and accurate credit report. You know that you can trust your credit report score from TransUnion; this company is one of the three major credit-reporting agencies and will always have your name on their files. You can get your credit report score from TransUnion while surfing the web. Their website is easy to navigate and you can become a member within minutes. You can then pull up your credit report score from TransUnion on your computer screen within a matter of minutes.

You might find one day that your credit report score from TransUnion is different from a different company. You can then query this mistake and have it sorted out for you in a couple of days. Isn’t it better to find out this kind of mistake sooner rather than later? With the TransUnion website, you can get your credit report score from all three major credit-reporting agencies. This allows you the chance to compare and see if there are any errors that might appear. If there are, then you can get in touch with either on of the companies and inform them of the error on your statement. We all know that one small error can cause you a lot of problems, such as being turned down for credit. So it is best to always keep up to date with your credit reports.

A credit report score from TransUnion will let you know your chances of getting accepted for credit. You can just switch on your computer have a glance at your credit score and know if you will be accepted or not. If you want to keep your credit rating in a good standing, then you will need to keep up to date with any payments that could bring it down. Once you are out of the red, you will never want to go back.
